Pre-Beginner Workshop

We are offering a June workshop this year for beginner students who will be joining us for Beginner Irish in September. Come and learn about the basics of Irish Dance and prepare for your first year of Irish Dance. This class will be held on the first four Mondays in June, from 4:00-4:45. Please drop us an email or call the number above if you are interested.

Recital Rehearsals

There will be a mandatory rehearsal from 4:30-7:30 on Thursday, May 14th for the students in our regular Thursday classes.

There is a mandatory rehearsal from 4:30-6:00 on the night of our recital, May 18th for all dancers performing in the show. Please arrive in time to be on the stage at 4:30 ready for rehearsal. Thank you!

June Private Lessons

We will be handing out private lesson time slots on Thursday, May 14th to those dancers who requested private lessons for June. This note will provide information regarding your child's private lesson time slot, day assignment and teacher assignment. Please see Miss Brenda with any questions.

Recital 2009

Recital Tickets for our May 18th performance will be on sale for the last time on this Thursday, May 14th. Please see Mrs. Coogan on Thursday if you need to purchase tickets as we will not sell tickets at the door.

June Workshop 2009

Our June workshop will run during the first four Mondays and Thursdays in June. Please refer to the letter handed out in class for information regarding class times and fees.

Friday Class April 3rd

We will hold Friday classes on April 3rd in place of the usual April 9th Thursday lessons. The JCC is closed on April 9th for a Jewish Holiday. All classes are normal Thursday times for April 3rd, with the exception of the Prelim/Champ class. These dancers should plan on coming to dance from 6:15-7:15 that night. Thank you.

St. Patrick's Day Parade 2009

All dancers are invited to participate in the Hartford St. Patrick's Day Parade to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14th. West Hartford is the fourth contingent to march this year and we will meetin the Capitol Parking Lot. We are very early in the parade so we should be marching by 11:15 a.m. and will complete the route by noon. Please meet in the parking lot no later than 10:30 a.m. so that we can line up the dancers prior to the start of the parade. Keep in mind that the roads around the Capitol are blocked to traffic after 10:00 a.m. See you there!!

Feis Information

We encourage our students to get involved in competitions throughout the region during the dance year. You can visit www.petersmithschool.com to view a complete listing of available feisana. There are many local venues this Fall. Beginner II students can check with the Coogan School Staff to see if they are ready to attend competitions. As alway, dancers should get approval from the teaching staff prior to changing dance categories or performing new dance steps at feisana. Thank you!

Recital 2008

Our recital this year will be held on Monday evening, May 19th. The rehearsal and performance will take place on the same evening so please plan on having your child at the JCC from 4:30-9:00. We will begin selling recital tickets on Monday, April 28th.

The Coogan School of Irish Dance, located in West Hartford Connecticut, is recognized throughout the New England region and the country for its excellence in dance education.

Founded in 1997, The Coogan School is dedicated to fostering an appreciation of Irish Dance, while also developing skill and a sense of confidence within each dancer.

The school is established as a competitive and highly reputable center for Irish Dance education, with dancers from the Coogan School earning first place awards in the New England Irish Dance Championship Traditional Set competition as well as regional, national and international awards in preliminary championship and championship level events. Our dancers partipate in various activities throughout the year including community shows, our annual Ceili, the St. Patrick's Day Parade, our May Recital and regional, national and international competitions.

The Coogan School of Irish Dance is not solely focused on competition, but rather emphasizes the enrichment of the student in all aspects of life. Self-esteem, social and communication skills, and physical health are nurtured in each dance lesson, aiming to bring enjoyment and confidence to each dancer.
